Test SC-7A: Checking Speed Control Operation
NOTE:
Use this test when there are no speed control codes set.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor speed control switch inputs. While observing scan tool, press speed control ON switch. If scan tool does not display speed control switch ON or if there is a complaint with speed control engage light, go to TEST SC-8A . If scan tool displays speed control switch ON, go to next step.
- While observing scan tool, press SET, RESUME and CANCEL switches several times. If scan tool displays switch changes from RELEASE/PRESSED and all functions are working properly, go to step 6). If scan tool displays only one or 2 switches work properly, replace speed control switching assembly. Perform TEST SC-VER . If scan tool does not display any switch functions working properly, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Access and disconnect 2-pin speed control switch connector located under air bag assembly. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance of ground circuit between 2-pin speed control switch connector Black/Gray wire and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black/Gray wire between 2-pin speed control switch connector and splice. Perform TEST SC-VER . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Measure resistance of speed control switch signal circuit between 2-pin speed control switch connector Light Blue wire and PCM connector terminal No. 41 (Red wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in speed control switch signal circuit between 2-pin speed control switch connector and PCM connector. Perform TEST SC-VER . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of speed control switch signal circuit between 2-pin speed control switch connector Light Blue wire and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST SC-VER . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair short to ground in speed control switch signal circuit (Light Blue wire). Perform TEST SC-VER .
- While observing scan tool, press brake pedal several times. If scan tool does not display PRESSED and RELEASED, go to TEST SC-9A . If scan tool displays PRESSED and RELEASED, go to next step.
- While observing scan tool, move gear selector to Drive. If scan tool does not display Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch as D/R, go to TEST SC-10A . If scan tool displays PNP switch as D/R, go to next step.
- If speed control will not disengage when brake is applied, go to TEST SC-11A . If speed control will disengage when brake is applied, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance of ground circuit Black wire between speed control servo connector terminal No. 4 and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open ground circuit. Perform TEST SC-VER . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Press speed control ON switch. Using external voltmeter, measure voltage of speed control relay output circuit Dark Blue/White wire between speed control servo connector terminal No. 3 and ground. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to TEST SC-7B . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Reconnect speed control servo connector. Start engine. Allow engine to idle for one minute (this will charge vacuum servo). Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate speed control servo solenoids. Observe throttle. If throttle opened and closed, go to TEST SC-6A . If throttle does not open and close, go to TEST SC-7C .
