Front Sub Frame/Engine Cradle Removal And Installation/Replacement

Overview:
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in death or serious injury when elevated load or components are incorrectly secured/supported.
- All lifting equipment weight rating must meet or exceed the weight of the vehicle and any contents
- The lifting equipment must be in good condition and approved for use
- Only lift the vehicle from the identified lift points
- Ensure vehicle is stable before performing any work underneath
- Ensure there are no loose components which may fall
- Always use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Seek assistance when handling larger components

- Secure the component against uncontrolled movement.
- Always use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ensure vehicle is correctly disabled/powered down to prevent unexpected motion or activation of components.
Removal Procedure:
- Remove high voltage battery. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Remove front wheels. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Remove both front tire air deflector Refer to FRONT TIRE AIR DEFLECTOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Remove front bumper fascia. Refer to FRONT BUMPER FASCIA REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Remove front bumper fascia skid plate. Refer to FRONT BUMPER FASCIA SKID PLATE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Remove 4 bolts (1) on both sides of the crash support brackets.
Torque: 28 Nm
- Remove 2 bolts (1).
Torque: 5 Nm
- Remove 2 bolts (1).
Torque: 8 Nm
- Tie up the eMotor 3-way valve (2).
- Remove 2 bolts (1).
Torque: 8 Nm.
- Tie up the eMotor water pump (2).
- Remove 2 bolts (1).
Torque: 8 Nm
- Tie up the low pressure chiller (2).
- Remove 2 screws (1) on both sides of the front wheelhouse liner.
Torque: 2.6 Nm
- Support the front strut yoke (1) with a gear jack.
Removal Note: Lift the front strut yoke (1) with the gear jack slightly to loosen the screw connection more easily.
- Loosen the 2 nuts (2) and remove the bolts (3) on both sides.
Replace with new only.
Tightening torque - First Pass: 140 Nm
Tightening torque - Final pass: 90° Rotation Angle
- Remove the front strut yokes (1) from the front lower control arms (4).
- Loosen the nuts (1) on both sides.
Replace with new only.
Tightening torque - First Pass: 120 Nm
Tightening torque - Second Pass: loosen nut one turn
Tightening torque - Final pass: 80 Nm
- Remove the lower wishbones (2) from the steering knuckles (3). If necessary, press out with a press-out tool.
- Loosen 2 nuts (1) on both sides.
Replace with new only.
Torque: 100 Nm
- Remove tie bars (2) from steering knuckles (3). If necessary, press out with a press-out tool.
- Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft (1) from the steering gear. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Remove 2 nuts (1) on both sides and separate coupling rods from the front struts. Replace with new only.
Torque: 72 Nm
- Hold the electric motor from above with a suitable motor holder.
- Remove the bolt (1) and separate motor holder (2) from unit support (3).
Replace with new only.
Torque: 88 Nm
- Unlock and disconnect 2 electrical connectors (1) of the steering gear.
Remove note: Using a suitable lifting/supporting device for the front cradle, support the cradle before removing the securing bolts to the body.
- Remove 6 bolts (1).
Replace with new only.
Torque: 165 Nm
- Gently lower the front sub frame engine cradle (1) downwards using the lifting/supporting jack.
Replacement Procedure:
- Rebuild steering gear. Refer to STEERING GEAR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild front anti roll bar. Refer to FRONT ANTI ROLL BAR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild front lower control arm. Refer to FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild front lower tension strut. Refer to FRONT LOWER TENSION STRUT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
Installation Procedure:
Failure to discard the specified component(s) may cause damage to the vehicle or vehicle components.
- Fasteners highlighted as torque prevailing must be discarded and not re-used
- Replace with new nuts and bolts only.
- Installation is the reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.
All fasteners must be tightened to torque specification!
- Install front bumper fascia skid plate. Refer to FRONT BUMPER FASCIA SKID PLATE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Install front bumper fascia. Refer to FRONT BUMPER FASCIA REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Install front tire. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Install front tire air deflector Refer to FRONT TIRE AIR DEFLECTOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Install high voltage battery. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Carry out wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT MEASUREMENT AND SPECIFICATIONS
