Front Lower Control Arm Removal And Installation/Replacement

Mobile Repair Possible:  No

Special Tools Required: 

Transmission Jack/Lifter - no part number

Ball Joint Release Tool - No part number

Removal Procedure: 

The procedure for the left-hand component is identical to that for the right-hand side. 

  1. Lift the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE
  2. Remove wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  3. Remove underbody front air shield. Refer to UNDERBODY FRONT AIR SHIELD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT

  4. Support the front strut yoke (1) with a gear jack.

    Removal Note: Lift the front strut yoke (1)  with the gear jack slightly to loosen the screw connection more easily. 

  5. Loosen the nut (2) and remove the bolt (3).

    Replace with new only. 

    Tightening torque - First Pass: 140 Nm 

    Tightening torque - Final pass: 90° Rotation Angle 

  6. Remove the front strut yoke (1) from the front lower control arm (4).

  7. Loosen the nut (1).

    Replace with new only. 

    Tightening torque - First Pass: I20 Nm 

    Tightening torque - Second Pass: loosen nut one turn 

    Tightening torque - Final pass: 80 Nm 

  8. Remove the front lower control arm (2) from the steering knuckle (3). If necessary, press out with a press-out tool.

  9. Loosen the nut (1) and remove the bolt (2).

    Replace with new only. 

    Tightening torque - First Pass: 140 Nm 

    Tightening torque - Final pass: 90° Rotation Angle 

  10. Remove the front lower control arm (3) from the front sub frame/engine cradle (4).

Installation Procedure: 

NOTE: Safety-relevant procedure step 
Failure to discard the specified component(s) may cause damage to the vehicle or vehicle components.
  • Fasteners highlighted as torque prevailing must be discarded and not re-used
  • Replace with new Nuts and Bolts only.
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.

    All fasteners must be tightened to torque specification! 

  2. Install underbody front air shield. Refer to UNDERBODY FRONT AIR SHIELD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
  3. Install wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
