Fuel Pump/Sender Unit: Removal

  1. Depressurize fuel system. See DEPRESSURIZING FUEL SYSTEM  . Disconnect battery negative terminal. Siphon at least 2 gallons (9 liters) of fuel from fuel tank using a suitable container that can be sealed afterwards. Remove carpet from load space floor and tailgate. Fold back sound insulation to reveal access panel. Remove securing screws and detach access panel from floor.
  2. Disconnect electrical connections. See Figure . Disconnect 2 fuel line unions from fuel pump/sender unit. Using Pump Retaining Ring Wrench (LRT-19-001), remove pump assembly retaining ring and withdraw fuel pump/sender unit from fuel tank. See Figure and Figure .
