Test SC-1A - Checking Cruise Control Inputs
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Ensure battery is fully charged. With engine off, turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB, monitor cruise control switch inputs. While observing display, turn cruise control on.
- If DRB does not show cruise control switch "ON", go to TEST SC-2A . If DRB shows cruise control switch "ON", observe display and press SET switch several times. If DRB displays "PR" and "RE", go to next step. If DRB does not display "PR" and "RE", go to TEST SC-3A .
- Observe display and press RESUME switch several times. If DRB displays "PR" and "RE", go to next step. If DRB does not display "PR" and "RE", go to TEST SC-3B .
- Observe display and press brake pedal several times. If DRB displays "PR" and "RE", go to next step. If DRB does not display "PR" and "RE", go to TEST SC-4A .
- Observe display and move gear selector to drive. If DRB displays "D/R", go to next step. If DRB does not display "D/R", go to TEST SC-5A .
- Turn ignition off. Unplug cruise control servo connector. Inspect connector. Clean and repair as necessary. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe terminal No. 4 (Black wire) at connector. If resistance is more than 5.0 ohms, repair open in Black wire. If resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Turn cruise control on. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, probe cruise control servo connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Blue) wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to TEST SC-1B . I voltage is more than 10 volts, reconnect cruise control servo connector. Start engine and allow it to idle for 1 minute.
- Turn engine off and leave ignition on. Using DRB, actuate cruise control servo solenoid. If throttle does not open and close, go to TEST SC-6A . If throttle opens and closes, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect vacuum supply to cruise control servo. Attach a vacuum gauge to hose and start engine. If gauge does not indicate manifold vacuum, repair vacuum leak or restriction. If gauge indicates manifold vacuum, turn engine off. Observe vacuum gage for 10 seconds. If vacuum is not retained for at least 10 seconds, replace vacuum reservoir. Perform TEST VER-4A . If vacuum is retained, go to next step.
- Inspect throttle cable. If cable is disconnected or damaged, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-4A . If cable is not disconnected or damaged, replace cruise control servo. Perform TEST VER-4A .
