- NOTE: The Inverter System Controller (ISC) is referred to as the SOBDMC (Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module C) in the scan tool.NOTE: Drive Motor B refers to the electric generator. Drive Motor A refers to the electric motor.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition SOBDMC P0A45:00 Drive Motor 'B' Position Sensor Circuit: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when generator resolver feedback signal is shorted to ground Possible Causes
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Transmission assembly
- R1 CHECK THE INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) CALIBRATION LEVELNOTE: Wiring overlays or repinning of circuits are NOT appropriate for DTC P0A45 due to risk of hardware damage.
- Verify the Inverter System Controller (ISC) is at the latest calibration level.
Is the Inverter System Controller (ISC) at the latest calibration level?
Yes GO to R2 No UPDATE the Inverter System Controller (ISC) to the latest calibration level. - R2 VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE LOW VOLTAGE SYSTEM
- Ignition OFF.
- Depower the high voltage system. REFER to: High Voltage System De-energizing .
- Visually inspect all the low voltage cables.
- Make sure all the low voltage connectors are correctly and securely connected and latched.
- Examine all the low voltage cables and connectors for damaged, burned or overheated insulation and loose or broken conditions.
Is a concern present?
Yes REPLACE the cable. CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and REPEAT the self-test. No GO to R3 - R3 CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) IN THE INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC)
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check for continuous memory codes in the Inverter System Controller (ISC).
Were any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) received?
Yes For P0A45 with P0C6B ONLY, GO to R4For P0A45 with P0C6C ONLY, GO to R6For P0A45 with P0C66 ONLY, GO to R8For P0A45 with P0C67 ONLY, GO to R10For P0A45 with P0C5F ONLY, GO to R12For P0A45 with P0A3F ONLY, GO to R16For P0A45 ONLY, GO to R20
For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) refer to the Master DTC chart.No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. - R4 CHECK FOR GS2 SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect HF45 Transmission C1111.
- Disconnect Inverter System Controller (ISC) C199B.
- Measure and record:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1111 Pin 33 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes GO to R5 No REPLACE the harness. - R5 CHECK FOR GS4 SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure and record:

Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes GO to R28 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:
- R6 CHECK FOR GS2 SHORT TO POWER
- Disconnect HF45 Transmission C1111.
- Disconnect Inverter System Controller (ISC) C199B.
- Measure and record:

Is any voltage present?
Yes REPLACE the harness. No GO to R7 - R7 CHECK FOR GS4 SHORT TO POWER
- Measure and record:

Is any voltage present?
Yes REPLACE the harness. No GO to R28 - Measure and record:
- R8 CHECK FOR GS1 SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect HF45 Transmission C1111.
- Disconnect Inverter System Controller (ISC) C199B.
- Measure and record:

Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes GO to R9 No REPLACE the harness. - R9 CHECK FOR GS3 SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure and record:

Yes GO to R28 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:
- R10 CHECK FOR GS1 SHORT TO POWER

- Measure and record:

Yes REPLACE the harness. No GO to R11 - R11 CHECK FOR GS3 SHORT TO POWER

- R12 CHECK FOR GR1 OPEN

- Measure and record:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to R21 No REPLACE the harness. - R21 CHECK FOR GS2 OPEN
- Measure and record:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to R22 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:
- R22 CHECK FOR GS3 OPEN

Yes GO to R23 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:

Yes GO to R24 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:

Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes GO to R25 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:

Is any voltage present?
Yes REPLACE the harness. No GO to R26 - Measure and record:
- R26 CHECK FOR GR1 SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure and record:

Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes GO to R27 No REPLACE the harness. - Measure and record:
- R27 CHECK FOR GR1 SHORT TO POWER
- Measure and record:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1111 Pin 31 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPLACE the harness. No GO to R28 - Measure and record:
- R28 CHECK FOR CORRECT INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Inverter System Controller (ISC) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Inverter System Controller (ISC) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Connect HF45 Transmission C1111.
- Ignition ON.
- Ignition OFF.
- Wait 5 minutes.
- Ignition ON.
- Clear the Inverter System Controller (ISC) diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- Ignition OFF.
- Start the engine.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, run the Inverter System Controller (ISC) self-test.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, REFER to GO to Pinpoint Test S
(In step S4 continue through to step S5 regardless of DTC presence.)No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
