Test SP-17A Code 34, Cruise Control Solenoid Circuit

  1. While listening to cruise control servo, cycle cruise control ON/OFF switch. If cruise control servo clicked when cycling ON/OFF switch, perform TEST SP-17B  . If cruise control servo did not click when cycling ON/OFF switch, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect and inspect cruise control servo connector. If connector condition is not okay, repair connector as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If connector condition is okay, place cruise control ON/OFF switch in ON position. Place DRB-II in voltmeter mode.
  3. Ensure brake pedal is NOT pressed and probe terminal No. 2 (Dark Blue/Red wire) at cruise control servo connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 5). If voltage is more than 10 volts, place DRB-II in ohmmeter mode.
  4. Probe terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at cruise control servo connector. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace cruise control servo. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open in Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  .
  5. If voltage is more than 10 volts at Dark Blue/Red wire in step 3), ensure brake pedal is NOT depressed and backprobe Dark Blue/Red wire at brake switch connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, backprobe Tan wire in brake switch connector.
  6. If voltage is more than 10 volts, adjust or replace brake switch as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If voltage is less than 10 volts, disconnect cruise control relay. Probe terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire) at cruise control relay connector.
  7. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, disconnect brake switch connector. Inspect connector. If connector condition is not okay, repair connector as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If connector condition is okay, go to next step.
  8. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance at Tan wire between terminal No. 5 at brake switch connector and terminal No. 4 at cruise control relay connector. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open in Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  . If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace cruise control relay. Perform VERIFICATION TEST SP-VER  .
