Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 3:  Tests the rear side door actuator control module for the optical sensor 5-volt reference and ground.
  2. 4:  Tests the optical sensor signal circuit. While the door is moving at the approximate power operating speed the average voltage measured should be 2-3 volts.
  3. 5:  Tests the optical sensor signal circuit. While the door is moving at the approximate power operating speed the average voltage measured should be 2-3 volts.
DTC 022

Step Action Value(s) Yes No

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information
2
  1. Disconnect the optical sensor from the actuator motor and clutch assembly.
  2. Disconnect the optical sensor pigtail harness connector from the rear side door actuator control module.
  3. Measure for continuity between the individual circuits of the pigtail harness connector.
Is there continuity between any of the circuits?
- Go to Step 8  Go to Step 3
3
  1. Connect the optical sensor to the actuator motor and clutch assembly.
  2. Connect the optical sensor pigtail harness connector to the rear side door actuator control module.
  3. Turn the power sliding door (PSD) ON/OFF switch to the OFF position to exit the on-board diagnostic modes.
  4. Manually close the PSD.
  5. Using a digital voltmeter backprobe the optical sensor connector from the 5-volt reference circuit to the low reference circuit.
  6. Manually open the PSD.
Is the voltage the specified value?
5 V Go to Step 4  Go to Step 10
4
  1. Using a digital voltmeter backprobe the optical sensor from the terminal 3 signal circuit to the low reference circuit.
  2. Slowly move the PSD from open to closed.
Is the voltage within the specified values?
0.01-4.5 V Go to Step 5  Go to Step 8
5
  1. Using a digital voltmeter backprobe the optical sensor from the terminal 4 signal circuit to the low reference circuit.
  2. Slowly move the PSD from closed to open.
Is the voltage within the specified values?
0.01-4.5 V Go to Step 6  Go to Step 8
6
  1. Disconnect the actuator motor connector to the rear side door actuator control module.
  2. Using a DMM test the resistance through the actuator motor.
Is the resistance within the specified values?
1-3 Ω Go to Step 7  Go to Step 9
7
  1. Disconnect the actuator clutch connector to the rear side door actuator control module.
  2. Using a DMM test the resistance through the actuator clutch.
Is the resistance within the specified values?
2-5 Ω Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9
8 Inspect and if possible repair any damage to the optical sensor pigtail harness or connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs andConnector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 11
9 Inspect and if possible repair any damage to the pigtail harness or connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 12
10 Inspect for poor connections at the rear side door actuator control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 13
11 Replace the optical sensor. Refer to Rear Side Door Actuator Sensor Replacement .
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 14  -
12 Replace the actuator motor and clutch assembly. Refer to Motor Clutch Replacement - Power Sliding Door (With RPO E58)  or Motor Clutch Replacement - Power Sliding Door (With RPO E59) .
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 14  -
13 Replace the rear side door actuator control module. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 14  -
14 Re-initialize the PSD and operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- System OK Go to Step 2
