Scan Tool Does Not Communicate With Components

NOTE: A short to ground will cause an open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.
  1. Remove the scan tool from the Data Link Connector (DLC). Measure the voltage between terminal No. 16 of the DLC and ground. See Figure . If battery positive voltage is present, go to next step. If battery positive voltage is not present, go to step  3 .
  2. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 5 and 16 of the DLC. See Figure . If battery positive voltage is present, go to step  4 . If battery positive voltage is not present, go to step  5 .
  3. Repair the open in CKT 40 between the fuse block and the DLC. See Figure . Perform data link communications system check. See DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM CHECK  .
  4. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 4 and 16 of the DLC. See Figure . If battery positive voltage is present, go to step  6 . If battery positive voltage is not present, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair the open in CKT 451 between the DLC and G110. See Figure . Perform data link communications system check. See DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM CHECK  .
  6. Reconnect the scan tool to the DLC. Attempt to establish communication with each module connected to the DLC. If communication can be established with all modules, perform data link communications system check. See DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM CHECK  . If communication cannot be established with a particular module, perform appropriate system test.
  7. Repair the open in CKT 150 between the DLC and G204. See Figure . Perform data link communications system check. See DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM CHECK  .
