Data Link Communications System Check

  1. Connect scan tool and establish communications with any of the modules on the serial data lines. If any communication can be established, go to next step. If no communication can be established, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH COMPONENTS  .
  2. Access the DTCs using the scan tool. If any modules have any DTCs stored, diagnose accordingly.
  3. Using scan tool. establish communication with the instrument cluster. If scan tool cannot communicate with the instrument cluster, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  . If scan tool communicates with the instrument cluster, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool. establish communication with the Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM). If scan tool cannot communicate with SDM, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SDM  If scan tool communicates with SDM, go to next step.
  5. Establish communication with the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). If scan tool cannot communicate with EBCM, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EBCM  . If scan tool communicates with EBCM, go to next step.
  6. Establish communication with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication cannot be established with the PCM, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH UART DATA LINE  and SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DATA LINE  .
