DESCRIPTION
This TIE Technical journal will describe:
- How to check the "Software Version" of a Google/Android based vehicle (ICUP)
- Description of what will trigger an update of the "Software Version"
This is useful to know when new software information is available in e.g:
- TIE Technical Journals
- TIE Service Journals
- TIE News
- VIDA release notes saying something as in below examples.
- If you are still experiencing issues, ensure that the vehicle is running software VX.X or later before contacting support.
- The following bug fixes and new features are included in this release of the VX.X software.
- An issue has been discovered on XXX cars with software VX.X released 2022, weekXX

How to check software version:
In the Vehicle:
Software version can be checked in the CCD by selecting Settings > System > Software Update.
In VIDA:
- Enter the VTN to profile the vehicle in the Search Vehicle screen.
- Select "Vehicle Details" > Variant Attributes. (described in VIDA Help if needed)NOTE: Vehicle Details and Variant Attributes can also be viewed on an already profiled & connected vehicle by clicking on the VTN in the status bar at the top of the screen.
- Look for the VDNs named "SW Major" and "SW Minor" by making a search using the word SW + a space.
For example, the attached picture (TJ36482.jpg) is showing a vehicle having software version 2.5.
In TIE:
- Select Vehicle Info.
- Make a search using the VIN.
- Select VDNs.
- Scroll down to the same VDNs shown in the example from VIDA.

Description of what will trigger an update of the "Software Version"
If there is a need to update the vehicle with a higher software version, then it will require that one of the software products below is used for updating the vehicle:
- Total Upgrade (via VIDA or OTA)
- PDS Upgrade
This means that the vehicle software version will not be changed when only updating an ECU having an issue (ex. TCAM or IHU) or if an individual ECU is replaced and reloaded.
