RAPGARD-F™ Paintwork Protection [2014-2016]

During storage and transport the paintwork on the engine hood, roof and trunk lid of cars is protected by RAPGARD-F, a white plastic film with synthetic rubber adhesive, which is applied to the car in the factory.

RAPGARD-F must be left on the car until approximately 48 hours  prior to delivery to the customer.

The maximum storage time for RAPGARD-F is 6 months from the date of manufacture. 

The date of manufacture can be obtained by the dealer using the chassis number register.

If the plastic film becomes detached at any point, the loose section must be removed as soon as possible.

The white areas in the picture show where RAPGARD-F is applied  .

REMOVAL OF RAPGARD-F 

TEMPERATURE: 

A temperature of 20°C  is ideal for removing RAPGARD-F. The temperatures permitted are as follows:

• Minimum temperature 0°C 
• Maximum temperature 35°C  .

METHOD OF REMOVAL

Pull off the RAPGARD film by hand only. No tools may be used. 

Begin by loosening the film at the corners.

Place the hands as close as possible to the body so that the film is lifted off parallel to the body (see the illustration).

This will minimize the quantity of adhesive remaining on the body.

On large surfaces, such as the hood and roof, pull alternately from two corners until the film is loose.

PLASTIC RESIDUE

After RAPGARD-F is removed, there may still be plastic residue caught under the washer jets. The jets must be lifted slightly when RAPGARD-F is removed to avoid this.

Use flat-nosed pliers to press in the locking clips on the jet and then lift it in order to remove the RAPGARD-F.

After removing RAPGARD-F, press the washer jet firmly into place on the hood.

ADHESIVE RESIDUE 

Wash the car with water when the film has been removed. Dry the car and inspect for adhesive residue on the paintwork.

Any adhesive residue must be removed using auto-cleaner, P/N 1161300 or 1161450.

BUBBLING 

Inspect paintwork for bubbling after any adhesive residue has been removed. Bubbling is usually temporary and will disappear within 24 hours  . If there is still bubbling after 48 hours  , heat carefully using a hot-air gun. Hold the air pistol approximately 30 cm  from the paint.

If the bubbling persists, the paintwork must be sanded down and touched up.
