Checking The Camshaft Control

Active camshaft control checks that the camshaft assumes the position that the control modules intends to control the camshaft to. The position means that the correct camshaft angle is obtained, so that the camshaft opens and closes the valves at the right moment. This is done by measuring the time that the system takes to control out to the desired camshaft position (time for the actual shift angle to reach the desired angle for the shift angle). The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored in the engine control module (ECM) if the camshaft shift angle does not reach the desired value within a certain time. the function can be tested using the diagnostic tool.
