Connecting & Disconnecting Breakout Box: Connecting

  1. Remove ECM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - EXCEPT S40 & V40 article.
  2. Check that no pins or sockets are damaged on connector.
  3. Gently press adapter 951 1504 or equivalent down into grooves inside ECM box. Press to the limit position. See Fig 2.
  4. Insert tool 999 5722 or equivalent puller around adapter. Move upper section of the tool forward as far as it will go. Pull up. See Fig 2.
  5. Check ECM and ECM connectors to ensure that male and female terminals are undamaged and secure (cannot be pressed in further). Check that cables to the female terminals are secured to the terminal pins.
  6. Connect adapter 951 1504 or equivalent to ECM connector (wiring side). See Fig 2.
  7. Connect breakout box 951 1428 or equivalent to adapter via wiring 951 1499. See Fig 2.
