Electronic Idle Speed Control

Engine speed sensor sends an alternating voltage to ECM. ECM processes idle speed signal and compares actual reading with a preset specification.

Idle speed is held constant by electromagnetic actuator, independent of engine load. When engine coolant temperature is less than 140°F (60°C), ECM increases idle speed to a preset specification.
