Rear Vision Camera System Malfunction
The video processing control module receives video information via a video signal + and a video signal - circuit sent by the cameras.
Grounded shielding can reduce electrical noise that can affect the video signal and cause a distorted or otherwise degraded image.
The signals from the cameras are combined and sent to the HMI-Module.
A malfunction or a poor video image can be caused by dirt, debris or ice and snow, buildup on the lens of the appropriate camera.
The image quality is affected by:
- Extreme lighting conditions
- Operating in the dark or with bright sunlight shining
- Extreme high or low temperatures
- Open in the shield of the video signal circuit
Replaced, misaligned, or incorrectly adjusted cameras on the Surround Vision Camera System must be calibrated. Refer to SURROUND VISION CAMERA SYSTEM CALIBRATION (LAUNCH MOBILE)
DTC check:
Check that there are no DTCs Stored and that the control modules can communicate via the serial data link.

Visual Inspection:
- Check all possible retrofitted components that may affect the Park Assist system.
- Aftermarket electrical devices, such as charging cables, USB adapters, etc., may interfere with the rearview camera system.
Remove or disconnect these before proceeding with any fault diagnosis
- Check all surround vision components that are easily accessible and visible for damage that could cause a malfunction.
Intermittent issue:
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing and Inducing Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections
Repair Instruction Information:
- For rear surround view monitoring camera replacement. Refer to REAR SURROUND VIEW MONITORING CAMERA REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- For calibration. Refer to SURROUND VISION CAMERA SYSTEM CALIBRATION (LAUNCH MOBILE)
- For programming and setup. Refer to DIAGNOSTICS, PROGRAMMING AND SETUP USING IDS IN SERVICE
Component function check:
- Ignition needs to be powered on.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Put the vehicle into reverse.
- Check that the rear-view camera feed is displayed properly on the MDU.
- If the component does not work correctly proceed to step 5.
- If no issues are found no further action is required.
- Using the diagnostic tool see if any DTCs are present.
- If any DTCs are present, refer to the guided repair instruction and then proceed onto step 6.
- If no DTCs are present proceed on to step 6.
- Conduct a visual inspection of the cameras.
- If necessary, clean the cameras and proceed on to step 7.
- Check that a clear rear vision image is displayed on the MDU.
- If no clear image is displayed go back to step 5.
- If the issue is still present the wiring and electrical connectors will need to be checked.
- If a clear image is displayed no further action is necessary.
