SPIRAL CABLE (for Sedan): Installation: Installation

WARNING:

Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  1. INSTALL STEERING SENSOR (w/ VSC)

    1. Engage the 6 claws and insert the 2 pins into the holes to install the steering sensor onto the spiral cable.
  2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE (w/ VSC)

    1. Check that the ignition switch is turned to OFF.
    2. Confirm that the negative battery terminal is detached.
      WARNING:

      Do not begin the operation for at least 90 seconds after the negative battery terminal is detached.

    3. Confirm that the front tires face straight forward.
    4. Confirm that the turn signal switch is in the neutral position.
      NOTE:

      Perform the operation when the turn signal switch is in the neutral position. Otherwise, the pin of the turn signal will break.

    5. Engage the 3 claws and install the spiral cable.
      NOTE:

      Pull the lock pin out before installing the steering wheel, when replacing the spiral cable with a new one.

    6. Connect the steering sensor connector.

    7. Connect the airbag connector.
    8. Connect the horn connector.
  3. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE (w/o VSC)

    1. Check that the ignition switch is turned to OFF.
    2. Confirm that the negative battery terminal is detached.

    5. Engage the 3 claws and install the spiral cable.
      NOTE:

    6. Connect the airbag connector.

    7. Connect the horn connector.
  4. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER

    1. Engage the 2 claws and install the steering column cover (upper).
    2. Engage the 2 claws and install the steering column cover (lower).
    3. Tighten the 3 screws.
  5. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Center the spiral cable.

      1. Turn the spiral cable counterclockwise until it locks.

        HINT: 

        The spiral cable turns a maximum of approximately 5 times.

      2. Turn the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise from its locked position and align the center marks.

  6. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 2
  7. INSTALL STEERING PAD

    1. Connect the horn connector.
    2. Connect the airbag connector.
      NOTE:
      • Align the color of the airbag connector with that of the steering pad assembly, and install the airbag connector.
      • Securely lock the locking button.
    3. Install the steering pad.

    4. Using "TORX" socket wrench T30, tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 8.8 N*m (90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf) 

  8. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) 

  9. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 

    Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
