DTC C1249/49: Open in Stop Light Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. INSPECT STOP FUSE 
    1. Remove the STOP No. 1 and STOP No. 2 fuses from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      STOP No. 1 fuse Always Below 1 Ω
      STOP No. 2fuse Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE STOP FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. Install the STOP No. 1 and STOP No. 2 fuses.
    2. Check that the stop light comes on when the brake pedal is depressed, and goes off when the brake pedal is released.

      OK

      Condition Illumination Condition
      Brake pedal depressed ON
      Brake pedal released OFF

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT SWITCH) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    4. Select the Data List on the Techstream. Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST .

      ABS/VSC/TRAC

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Stop Light Switch Stop light switch / ON or OFF ON: Brake pedal depressed
      OFF: Brake pedal released
      -
    5. Check the stop light switch display observed on the Techstream changes according to brake pedal operation.

      OK

      The Techstream displays ON or OFF according to brake pedal operation.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Clear the DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    3. Start the engine.
    4. Depress the brake pedal several times to test the stop light circuit.
    5. Check if the same DTC is detected. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

      HINT: 

      If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step. Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE .

    B → REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

    A → See step   11 

  5. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH (POWER SOURCE TERMINAL) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.
    2. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A23-2 - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Switch Condition Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Switch pin free 1 - 2 Below 1 Ω
      Switch pin pushed in 1 - 2 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (STP1 TERMINAL) 
    1. Install the stop light switch connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON (IG).
    3. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A34-27 (STP1) - Body ground Stop light switch ON
      (Brake pedal depressed)
      8 to 14 V
      A34-27 (STP1) - Body ground Stop light switch OFF
      (Brake pedal released)
      Below 1.5 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STP1 TERMINAL) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (GND TERMINAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Connection Specified Condition
      A34-32 (GND1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A34-1 (GND2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (GND TERMINAL) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH TO SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

    3. Disconnect the stop light switch connector and skid control ECU connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Connection Specified Condition
      A34-27 (STP1) - A23-1 (STP) Always Below 1 Ω
      A34-27 (STP1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Depress the brake pedal several times to test the stop light circuit.
    4. Check if same DTC is detected. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

      HINT: 

      If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step. Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE .

    B → REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

    A → INSPECT LIGHTING SYSTEM (STOP LIGHT CIRCUIT) 

  11. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS  .
