DTC P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON and START.

      OK

      Ignition Switch Position Starter Signal
      ON Close
      START Open
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (A/T models) B
      NG (M/T models) C

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL)

    1. Disconnect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch connector.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    6. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

  3. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Proceed to
      E77-10 (STA) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A
      Below 1.5 V B

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - STA RELAY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 

  4. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH

    1. Disconnect the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      4 - 5 Shift lever position except P and N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 - 5 All shift lever positions (P, R, N, D and S) 10 kΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Component without harness connected
      (PNP Switch Assembly)
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Short between 4 and 5 A
      Short between 2 and 5 B
      Within standard range C

    B → REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    A: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the park/neutral position switch assembly.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the ignition switch assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 (ST1) - 2 (AM1) Ignition switch ON 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (ST1) - 7 (AM2) Ignition switch ON 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT ECM (NSW TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Proceed to
      B48-2 (NSW) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A
      Below 1.5 V B

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 

  8. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL)

    1. Disconnect the clutch start switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the clutch start cancel switch connector.
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Turn the Techstream on.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    7. Check the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

  9. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch start switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the clutch start cancel switch connector.
    3. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition Proceed to

  10. INSPECT CLUTCH START SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the clutch start switch connectors.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 OFF (free) 10 kΩ or higher

  11. REPLACE CLUTCH START SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the clutch start switch assembly. Refer toREMOVAL .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  12. INSPECT CLUTCH START CANCEL SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the clutch start cancel switch assembly. Refer toINSPECTION .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed To
      Outside standard range A
      Within standard range B

  13. REPLACE CLUTCH START CANCEL SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the clutch start cancel switch assembly.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  14. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the ignition switch assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 (ST1) - 2 (AM1) Ignition switch ON 10 kΩ or higher
      1 (ST1) - 7 (AM2) Ignition switch ON 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → See step   20 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - CLUTCH START SWITCH - CLUTCH START CANCEL SWITCH) 

  15. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  16. REPLACE ECM. Refer to REMOVAL 
  17. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to REMOVAL 
  18. REPLACE ECM. Refer to REMOVAL 
  19. REPLACE ECM. Refer to REMOVAL 
  20. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to REMOVAL
