DTC P0442 Brake Switch "B" Circuit High: Procedure
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LIGHT SW)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Stop Light Switch.
- Read the values displayed on the Techstream.

Tester Display Measurement Item: Range Normal Condition Stop Light Switch Stop light switch status:
ON or OFF- ON: Brake pedal is depressed
- OFF: Brake pedal is released

- INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Remove the stop light switch assembly.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 Switch pin not pushed Below 1 Ω Switch pin pushed 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 4 Switch pin not pushed 10 kΩ or higher Switch pin pushed Below 1 Ω TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*1 Component without harness connected

OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY
- Remove the stop light control relay from the engine room relay block.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 4 Battery voltage not applied Below 1 Ω 3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 4 Battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher 3 - 5 Below 1 Ω
NG → REPLACE STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY)
- Disconnect the ECM connector.
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage

- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
- REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to REMOVAL
- REPLACE ECM. Refer to REMOVAL
