Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration from the stereo component amplifier or radio receiver and speakers.

    2. for 8 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 3 speakers and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E101-8 (FL+) - I9-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E101-7 (FL-) - I9-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      E101-2 (FR+) - H10-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E101-6 (FR-) - H10-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    3. for 6 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 2 speakers and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E1-2 (FL+) - I4-4 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-6 (FL-) - I4-2 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-1 (FR+) - H4-4 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-5 (FR-) - H4-2 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. for 8 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speakers and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E102-2 (WFL+) - I1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-1 (WFL-) - I1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-9 (WFR+) - H1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-3 (WFR-) - H1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    5. for 4 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speakers and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E1-2 (FL+) - I1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-6 (FL-) - I1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-1 (FR+) - H1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E1-5 (FR-) - H1-2 Always Below 1 Ω

    6. for 8 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the rear speakers and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E101-3 (RL+) - L52-2 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E101-9 (RL-) - L52-4 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E101-10 (RR+) - L51-2 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E101-4 (RR-) - L51-4 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-10 (SL-) - L52-3 (WF1-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-4 (SL+) - L52-1 (WF1+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-5 (SR+) - L51-1 (WF2+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E102-12 (SR-) - L51-3 (WF2-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Except for 8 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the rear speakers and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E2-2 (RL+) - L2-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E2-6 (RL-) - L2-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      E2-1 (RR+) - L1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E2-3 (RR-) - L1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    8. for 6 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speaker and front No. 2 speaker to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I4-3 (TWL+) - I1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      I4-1 (TWL-) - I1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      H4-3 (TWR+) - H1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      H4-1 (TWR-) - H1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    9. for 8 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between the stereo component amplifier and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E101-8 (FL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-7 (FL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-2 (FR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-6 (FR-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-3 (RL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-9 (RL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-10 (RR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E101-4 (RR-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E102-2 (WFL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E102-1 (WFL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E102-9 (WFR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    10. Except for 8 Speakers:

      Measure the resistance between each speaker or radio receiver and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      E1-2 (FL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E1-6 (FL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E1-1 (FR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E1-5 (FR-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E2-2 (RL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E2-6 (RL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E2-1 (RR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E2-3 (RR-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      I4-3 (TWL+) - Body ground(1) Always 10 kΩ or higher
      I4-1 (TWL-) - Body ground(1) Always 10 kΩ or higher
      H4-3 (TWR+) - Body ground(1) Always 10 kΩ or higher
      H4-1 (TWR-) - Body ground(1) Always 10 kΩ or higher
      (1) for 6 Speakers

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

      OK: Go to Next Step 

  2. INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

        Standard Resistance: 

        for 8 Speakers 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        I1-1 - I1-2 Always 1.5 to 2.2 Ω
        H1-1 - H1-2 Always 1.5 to 2.2 Ω

        Except for 8 Speakers 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        I1-1 - I1-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω
        H1-1 - H1-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω

        NG: REPLACE FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER  (See REMOVAL )

        OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CONFIRM MODEL 

    Result

    8 Speakers B

    B: Go to step 7 

    A: Go to Next Step 

  4. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

        Standard Resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L1-1 - L1-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω
        L2-1 - L2-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω

        NG: REPLACE REAR SPEAKER  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )

        OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. CONFIRM MODEL 

    Result 

    RESULT CHART

    Result Proceed to
    4 Speakers A
    6 Speakers B

    B: Go to step 6 

    A: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE )

  6. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER 
    1. Check that the malfunction disappears when a known good speaker is installed.

    OK: Malfunction disappears. 

    HINT:

    • Connect all the connectors to the front No. 2 speaker.
    • When there is a possibility that either the right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one with the left one.
    • Perform the above inspection on both LH and RH sides.

    NG: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE )

    OK: REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER  (See REMOVAL )

  7. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance: 

        for Tweeter 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L52-1 (WF1+) - L52-3 (WF1-) Always 5.9 to 7.1 Ω
        L51-1 (WF2+) - L51-3 (WF2-) Always 5.9 to 7.1 Ω

        for Woofer 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        L52-2 (+) - L52-4 (-) Always 1.8 to 2.6 Ω
        L51-2 (+) - L51-4 (-) Always 1.8 to 2.6 Ω

        NOTE: The speaker should not be removed when checking resistance.

        NG: REPLACE REAR SPEAKER  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )

        OK: Go to Next Step 

  8. INSPECT FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

        Standard Resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        I9-1 - I9-2 Always 1.5 to 2.5 Ω
        H10-1 - H10-2 Always 1.5 to 2.5 Ω

        NG: REPLACE FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER  (See REMOVAL )

        OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE )
