Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Toyota Corolla. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • Turn the ignition switch off before measuring the resistance of the main CAN bus wires and the CAN Bus branch wire.
  • After the ignition switch is turned off, check that the key reminder warning system and light reminder warning system are not in operation.
  • Before measuring the resistance, leave the vehicle as is for at least 1 minute and do not operate the ignition switch, any other switches or the doors. If any doors need to be opened in order to check the connectors, open the doors and leave them open.

HINT:

  1. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (DLC3 BRANCH WIRE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

    Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
    E11-6 (CANH) - E11-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH WIRE CONNECTED TO DLC3

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  2. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Reconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector.
    2. Disconnect the CAN No. 2 junction connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

    E11-6 (CANH) - E11-14 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG: Go to step  7

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (ECM MAIN WIRE) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 2 junction connector is disconnected.

    Standard Resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

    A47-10 (CANH) - A47-21 (CANL) Ignition switch off 108 to 132 Ω

    NG: Go to step  6

  4. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the skid control ECU connector and CAN No. 2 junction connector are disconnected.

    Standard Resistance

    A47-8 (CANH) - A47-19 (CANL) Ignition switch off 1 MΩ or higher

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Reconnect the CAN No. 2 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the skid control ECU connector is disconnected. The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. land CAN No. 2 junction connector are reconnected.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the ECM connector and CAN No. 2 junction connector are disconnected.

  7. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - CAN NO. 2 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 2 junction connector is disconnected.

    Standard Resistance

  8. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the CAN No. 1 junction connector is disconnected.

    Standard Resistance

  9. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the steering angle sensor connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.

  10. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - POWER STEERING ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the power steering ECU connector.

    2. Reconnect the CAN No. 2 junction connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the power steering ECU connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.

    Standard Resistance

  11. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the center airbag sensor assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the center airbag sensor assembly connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.

  12. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER) 
    1. Disconnect the air conditioning amplifier connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the air conditioning amplifier connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.

  13. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - MAIN BODY ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the main body ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the main body ECU connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.

  14. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - YAW RATE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the yaw rate sensor connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the yaw rate sensor connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.

  15. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR ACCESSORY GATEWAY) 
    1. w/ remote engine starter:
      1. Disconnect the accessory gateway connector from the accessory.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

  16. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CAN NO. 1 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Reconnect the CAN No. 1 junction connector and CAN No. 2 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE:
    • The resistance must be measured after the main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.
    • The resistance must be measured after the all branch wire connected ECUs and sensor connectors are disconnected.

  17. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Reconnect the steering angle sensor connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the steering angle sensor, main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

    Standard Resistance

  18. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (POWER STEERING ECU) 
    1. Reconnect the power steering ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the power steering ECU, main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  19. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the center airbag sensor assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the center airbag sensor assembly, main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  20. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER) 
    1. Reconnect the air conditioning amplifier connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the air conditioning amplifier, main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

    Standard Resistance

  21. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (MAIN BODY ECU) 
    1. Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the main body ECU, main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  22. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (ACCESSORY GATEWAY) 
    1. Reconnect the accessory gateway connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the main body ECU, main wire connected ECUs (ECM and combination meter), and CAN No. 1 and No. 2 junction connectors are reconnected.

  23. CHECK FOR SHORT IN CAN BUS WIRES (COMBINATION METER ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
    NOTE: The resistance must be measured after the combination meter ECU connector and CAN No. 1 junction connector are disconnected.
