Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION  ).

HINT:

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check for CAN communication system DTCs (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).

      Result

      DTC output B

    B: REPAIR CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Using the Techstream, check for any momentary interruption in the wire harness and connector corresponding to a DTC.

      Select the following menu items: Chassis / ABS/VSC/ TRAC/ Data List

      DATA LIST: ABS/VSC/TRAC 

      ABS/VSC/TRAC DATA LIST REFERENCE

      Tester Display Measurement Item / Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Steering Open Steering angle sensor open detection : OPN_DET or NORMAL OPN_DET: Momentary interruption
      NORMAL: Normal
      -

      OK: 

      There are no momentary interruptions. 

      Result

      OK (When troubleshooting in accordance with PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE) B
      NG C

    B: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    C:  Go to step  4

    A: Go to next step 

  3. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    2. Check if the same DTCs are recorded (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      Result

    B: END 

    A: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID  (See DISASSEMBLY )

  4. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Remove the steering wheel and the column lower cover.
    2. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Measure the voltage.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E16-1 (IG) - E16-2 (ESS) 11 to 14 V
      E16-9 (BAT) - E16-2 (ESS) 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 
    1. Replace the steering angle sensor (See REMOVAL  ).
  6. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    2. Check if the same DTCs are recorded (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC output A
      DTC not output B

    B: END 

    A: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID  (See DISASSEMBLY )
