Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION  ).
  1. INSPECT 4WD CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Check the select 2-4 and high-low system (See INSPECTION ).

      NG: REPLACE 4WD CONTROL SWITCH 

      OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4WD CONTROL SWITCH - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the 4WD control switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F11-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (GND CIRCUIT)

      OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4WD CONTROL ECU - 4WD CONTROL SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the 4WD control ECU connector and 4WD control switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F9-8 (2-4) - F11-5 (2-4) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-8 (2-4) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

      OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the 4WD control ECU connector.
    3. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    4. Disconnect the A.D.D. actuator connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      w/o A-TRAC Switch 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - E6-8 (4WD) Always Below 1 Ω
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      w/ A-TRAC Switch 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-21 (EXI4) - E6-8 (4WD) Always Below 1 Ω
      S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

      OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - 4WD CONTROL ECU - A.D.D. ACTUATOR) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the A.D.D. actuator connector.
    4. Disconnect the 4WD control ECU connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      w/o A-TRAC Switch 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - F10-18 (ADD) Always Below 1 Ω
      S28-26 (EXI3) - A11-3 (ADD) Always Below 1 Ω
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      w/ A-TRAC Switch 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-21 (EXI4) - F10-18 (ADD) Always Below 1 Ω
      S28-21 (EXI4) - A11-3 (ADD) Always Below 1 Ω
      S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

      OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT 4WD CONTROL ECU 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      w/o A-TRAC Switch 

      VOLTAGE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 2WD position) 10 to 14 V

      w/A-TRAC Switch 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 2WD position) 10 to 14 V

      NG: REPLACE 4WD CONTROL ECU 

      OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT ECM (4WD TERMINAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E6-8 (4WD) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 2WD position) 10 to 14 V

      NG: REPLACE ECM

      OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT A.D.D. ACTUATOR 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      w/o A-TRAC Switch 

      VOLTAGE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 2WD position) 10 to 14 V

      w/ A-TRAC Switch 

      TESTER CONNECTION CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-21 (EXI4) - Body ground 4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      4WD control switch (4WD) ON (Transfer 2WD position) 10 to 14 V

      NG: REPLACE A.D.D. ACTUATOR

      OK: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID  (See DISASSEMBLY )
