Inspection Procedure
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration on the left from the stereo component amplifier or the radio receiver and speakers.
- Measure the resistance between speakers or between a speaker and the stereo component amplifier or the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard resistance:
Below 1 Ω
- Measure the resistance between body ground and the stereo component amplifier to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.
Standard resistance:
10 kΩ or higher

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to Next Step
- INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
- Resistance check
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speakers.
Standard resistance:
9 Speaker:
Approximately 4 Ω
12 Speaker:
1.8 to 2.6 Ω
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speakers.
NG: REPLACE FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
OK: Go to Next Step
- Resistance check
- INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
- Check that the malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.
OK:
Malfunction disappears.
HINT:
- Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
When there is a possibility that either the right or left front speaker is defective, inspect it by interchanging the right one with the left one.
- Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
OK: REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
NG: Go to Next Step
- Check that the malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.
- INSPECT REAR SPEAKER
- Resistance check
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard resistance:
9 Speaker:
3.2 to 4.8 Ω
12 Speaker:
1.8 to 2.6 Ω
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
NG: REPLACE REAR SPEAKER
OK: Go to Next Step
- Resistance check
- INSPECT STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER
- Check that the malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.
OK:
Malfunction disappears.
HINT:
- Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
When there is a possibility that either the right or left front speaker is defective, inspect it by interchanging the right one with the left one.
- Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
OK: REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER
NG: Go to Next Step
- Check that the malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.
- INSPECT FRONT STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER
- Resistance check
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the front stereo component speaker.
Standard resistance (9 Speaker)

NG: REPLACE FRONT STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER
OK: Go to Next Step
- Resistance check
- INSPECT REAR NO. 2 SPEAKER
HINT:
If the vehicle is not equipped with a rear No. 2 speaker, proceed to the next step.
- Resistance check
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard resistance:
1.8 to 2.6 Ω
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
NG: REPLACE REAR NO. 2 SPEAKER
OK: Go to Next Step
- Resistance check
- INSPECT ROOF SPEAKER
HINT:
If the vehicle is not equipped with a roof speaker, proceed to the next step.
- Resistance check
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard resistance:
1.5 to 2.1 Ω
- Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
NG: REPLACE ROOF SPEAKER
OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
- Resistance check
