Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester or OBD II scan tool. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was LEAN or RICH, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
- CHECK FUSE (ETCS FUSE)
- Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room J/B.
- Measure the ETCS fuse resistance.
Standard resistance: Below 1 Ω
- Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
NG: CHECK FOR SHORTS IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE
OK: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT ECM (+BM VOLTAGE)
- Measure the voltage of the ECM connectors.
Standard voltage
ECM (+BM VOLTAGE)Tester Connection Specified Condition E5-6 (+BM) - E6-1 (E1) 9 to 14 V
OK: REPLACE ECM
NG: GO TO NEXT STEP
- Measure the voltage of the ECM connectors.
- CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY)
- Check the wire harness between the ETCS fuse and ECM.
- Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room J/B.
- Disconnect the E5 ECM connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard resistance
ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY (1 OF 2)Tester Connection Specified Condition J/B ETCS fuse terminal 2 - E5-6 (+BM) Below 1 Ω J/B ETCS fuse terminal 2 or E5-6 (+BM) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
- Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Check the wire harness between the ETCS fuse and battery.
- Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room J/B.
- Disconnect the battery positive cable.
- Check the resistance.
Standard resistance
ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY (2 OF 2)Tester Connection Specified Condition Battery positive cable - J/B ETCS fuse terminal 1 Below 1 Ω Battery positive cable or J/B ETCS fuse terminal 1 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
- Reconnect the battery positive cable.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK
- Check the wire harness between the ETCS fuse and ECM.
