Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester or OBD II scan tool. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was LEAN or RICH, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. CHECK FUSE (ETCS FUSE)
    1. Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room J/B.
    2. Measure the ETCS fuse resistance.

      Standard resistance: Below 1 Ω

    3. Reinstall the ETCS fuse.

NG: CHECK FOR SHORTS IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  2. INSPECT ECM (+BM VOLTAGE)
    1. Measure the voltage of the ECM connectors.

      Standard voltage

      ECM (+BM VOLTAGE)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E5-6 (+BM) - E6-1 (E1) 9 to 14 V

    OK: REPLACE ECM

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP

  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY)
    1. Check the wire harness between the ETCS fuse and ECM.
      1. Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room J/B.
      2. Disconnect the E5 ECM connector.
      3. Check the resistance.

        Standard resistance

ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY (1 OF 2)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        J/B ETCS fuse terminal 2 - E5-6 (+BM) Below 1 Ω
J/B ETCS fuse terminal 2 or E5-6 (+BM) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      4. Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the ETCS fuse and battery.
      1. Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room J/B.
      2. Disconnect the battery positive cable.
      3. Check the resistance.

        Standard resistance

ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY (2 OF 2)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        Battery positive cable - J/B ETCS fuse terminal 1 Below 1 Ω
Battery positive cable or J/B ETCS fuse terminal 1 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      4. Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
      5. Reconnect the battery positive cable.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK: CHECK AND REPLACE ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK
