When using hand-held tester:

  1. Check connection of PCV piping. 

    NG: Repair or replace PCV piping. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  2. Check air induction system. 

    Check for vacuum leaks in air induction system.

    NG: Repair or replace air induction system. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. Are there any other codes (besides DTC P0505) being output? 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool main switch ON.
    3. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/DTC INFO/CURRENT CODES".

    CHECK: 

    Read the DTCs using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool.

    Result: 

    DISPLAY (DTC OUTPUT) SPECIFICATION

    Display (DTC output) Proceed to
    P0505 A
    "P0505" and other DTCs B

    HINT:

    If any other codes besides "P0505" are output, perform the troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

    1. B: Go to relevant DTC chart (See  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  ). 
    2. A: Go to next step. 
  4. Check ISC valve operation. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3 on the vehicle.
    2. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature.
    3. Switch off all the accessories.
    4. Switch off the A/C.
    5. Shift the lever into the neutral position.
    6. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/ACTIVE TEST/ISC DUTY RATIO".

    CHECK: 

    Check that the engine RPM varies when changing the ISC duty ratio.

    OK: 

    Engine RPM fluctuates up and down in response to the ISC duty ratio variation. 

    OK: Check for intermittent problems (See  PRE-CHECK  ). 

    NG: Go to next step. 

  5. Check A/C signal circuit. 

    NG: Repair or replace A/C signal circuit. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  6. Check blockage of ISC valve and passage to bypass throttle valve. 

    NG: Repair or replace throttle body idle speed control valve. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  7. Check voltage between terminal +B and GND of ISC valve connector. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Disconnect the I1 ISC valve connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the voltage between the terminals of the ISC valve wire harness side connector.

    OK: 

    SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    VISC (I1-2) - GND (I1-3) 9 to 14 V

    NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  8. Check for open and short in harness and connector between ECM and ISC valve. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Disconnect the I1 ISC valve connector.
    2. Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    OK: 

    Standard (Check for open):

    Standard (Check for short): 

    SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    DUTY (l1-1) or RSD (E6-5) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  9. Inspect throttle body idle speed control valve (See  INSPECTION  ). 

    NG: Replace throttle body idle speed control valve. 

    OK: Replace ECM (See  COMPONENTS  ).
