Inspection Procedure

NOTE: Troubleshoot in accordance with the chart below for each trouble symptom.
ABS WARNING LIGHT TROUBLE SYMPTOM

ABS Warning Light Does Not Light Up (1)
ABS Warning Light Remains On (2)
(1) Start the inspection from step  1 in case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester and start from step  2 in case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester.
(2) After inspection of step  4, start the inspection from step  5 in case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester and start from step  6 in case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester.
  1. Check operation of the ABS warning light. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.

    CHECK: 

    Check that "ON" of the ABS warning light can be shown on the combination meter using the TOYOTA hand-held tester.

    NOTE: ABS warning light turns "OFF" automatically 2 seconds after it is turned "ON".
    1. OK: Check and replace ABS ECU. 
    2. NG: Go to next step 
  2. Check ABS warning light. 

    See combination meter troubleshooting on BRAKE WARNING LIGHT .

    1. NG: Repair bulb or combination meter assembly. 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  3. Check ABS solenoid relay. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Remove the ABS solenoid relay from the engine room R/B No. 2.

    CHECK: 

    Check continuity between each terminal of ABS solenoid relay.

    OK: 

    ABS SOLENOID RELAY SPECIFICATIONS

    Terminals Specification
    Terminals 4 and 6 Continuity (Reference value 80 Ω)
    Terminals 2 and 3 Continuity
    Terminals 1 and 3 Open

    CHECK: 

    1. Apply battery positive voltage between terminals 4 and 6.
    2. Check continuity between each terminal of ABS solenoid relay.

    OK: 

    ABS SOLENOID RELAY SPECIFICATIONS

    Terminals Specifications
    Terminals 2 and 3 Open
    Terminals 1 and 3 Continuity

    CHECK: 

    Connect the positive test lead to terminal 5 and the negative lead to terminal 3. Check continuity between the terminals.

    OK: 

    1. Continuity 

    If there is no continuity, connect the negative test lead to terminal 5 and the positive lead to terminal 3. Recheck continuity between terminals.

    1. NG: Replace ABS solenoid relay. 
    2. OK: Repair or replace and check for open circuit in harness and connector between DLC1 and ABS solenoid relay and body ground  .
  4. Check that the ABS ECU connectors are securely connected to the ABS ECU. 
    1. NO: Connect the connector to the ABS ECU. 
    2. YES: Go to next step 
  5. Check operation of the ABS warning light (See step   1 ). 
    1. OK: Check and replace ABS ECU. 
    2. NG: Go to next step 
  6. Is DTC output? 

    Check DTC on PRE-CHECK .

    1. YES: Repair circuit indicated by the output code. 
    2. NO: Go to next step 
  7. Does ABS warning light go off if short pin is removed? 
    1. NO: Check for short circuit in harness and connector between warning light and DLC1 and ABS ECU  .
    2. YES: Go to next step  .
  8. Check ABS solenoid relay (See step   3 ). 
    1. NG: Replace ABS solenoid relay. 
    2. OK: Check for short circuit in harness and connector between DLC1 and ABS solenoid relay  .
