Hydraulic System Pressure Test

  1. Power steering fluid must be 104°F (40°C) or warmer. Run engine and cycle steering lock to lock several times to warm fluid. DO NOT close valve for longer than 10 seconds. Pump damage could result.
  2. Start and idle engine. Close pressure gauge valve and note pressure. Minimum pressure should be 710 psi (50 kg/cm2 ).
  3. Let engine idle. Open pressure gauge valve fully. Rotate steering wheel to full lock position. Note pressure. Repeat procedure with steering wheel in opposite direction. Minimum pressure should be 710 psi (50 kg/cm2 ). If pressure is less than specified, steering gear has an internal leak. Repair or replace steering gear.
