Diagnostic Procedure With Cancel Code: 14

Detected when the select lever is shifted to the neutral position, or when an error related to the neutral position switch occurs.

Trouble symptom: 

Cruise control cannot be set.

Wiring diagram: 

Cruise control system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (IMPREZA MODEL)>CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM . Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (CROSSTREK MODEL (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

  1. CHECK TRANSMISSION TYPE  .

    Is the transmission type CVT?

    Yes:  Go to  2.

    No:  Go to  5. (MT model)

  2. CHECK INHIBITOR SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the inhibitor switch connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage between inhibitor switch connector and chassis ground.

      Connector and terminal 

      Impreza model 

      (T7) No. 6 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      Crosstrek model 

      (T7) No. 5 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 10 V or more?

    Yes:  Go to  3.

    No:  Check for open or short circuit in the harness between inhibitor switch connector and ECM.

  3. CHECK INHIBITOR SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between inhibitor switch connector and ECM.

      Connector and terminal 

      Impreza model 

      (T7) No. 9 - (B134) No. 50:

      Crosstrek model 

      (T7) No. 4 - (B134) No. 50:

    Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  4.

    No:  Repair the harness.

  4. PERFORM UNIT INSPECTION OF INHIBITOR SWITCH  .

    Remove and check the inhibitor switch. Ref. to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM>INHIBITOR SWITCH .

    Is the inhibitor switch OK?

    Yes:  Replace the ECM. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) .

    No:  Replace the inhibitor switch.

  5. CHECK NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the neutral position switch connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage between neutral position switch connector and chassis ground.

      Connector and terminal 

      (T12) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 10 V or more?

    Yes:  Go to  6.

    No:  Check for open or short in the harness between neutral position switch and ECM.

  6. CHECK NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between neutral position switch connector and ECM.

      Connector and terminal 

      (T12) No. 2 - (B134) No. 50:

    Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  7.

    No:  Repair the harness.

  7. PERFORM UNIT INSPECTION OF NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  .

    Remove and check the neutral position switch. Ref. to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM>NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH .

    Is the neutral position switch OK?

    Yes:  Replace the ECM.

    Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) .

    No:  Replace the neutral position switch.
