NOTE:
Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect connectors AB24 and AB25. See Figure. Connect connector AB24 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F. See Figure. Connect Air Bag Resistor (98299PA040) to harness "F", connector 3F. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light goes off after 7 seconds and does not come back on after 30 seconds, replace passenger side impact air bag module and go to step 4. See SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If AIR BAG warning light does not function as described, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait 20 seconds. Disconnect air bag resistor from test harness "F". Disconnect connector AB18 from air bag control module and connect it to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (engine off). Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 7. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, replace passenger side impact air bag harness. Go to step 4.
- Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 9. If voltage is less than one volt, replace air bag control module and go to next step. See CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is one volt or more, replace passenger side impact air bag harness and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect system components and activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Clear air bag system codes. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Check for normal air bag system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
