WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Subaru Impreza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect connector AB26 from right seat belt pretensioner. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect right side air bag module connectors AB24 and AB25 located under seat. See Figure. Connect connector AB24 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F. See Figure. Connect air bag resistor to test harness "F", connector 3F. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning operates properly, replace front seat with side air bag module. See FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If AIR BAG warning does not operate properly, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect air bag resistor from test harness "F". Disconnect air bag control module connector AB18. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect connector AB18 to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure or Figure . Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 7 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 9 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace body harness with side air bag harness.
  3. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminals No. 7 and 9. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with side air bag harness.
  4. Measure resistance between test harness "F", connector 3F, terminals No. 3 and 4. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with side air bag harness.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with side air bag harness.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 7. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 9. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag control module. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with side air bag harness.
