Check Key Warning Switch

  1. Remove and visually inspect fuse No. 6 (15-amp) located in main fuse box. Replace fuse as necessary. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect keyless entry control module harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between harness connector terminal No. 16 and ground. See Figure . If voltage is about 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 10 volts, go to step  4 .
  3. Remove key from ignition switch. Measure voltage between harness connector terminal No. 16 and ground. If voltage is zero volts, key warning switch is operating properly. If voltage is not zero volts, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect key warning switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check continuity between key warning switch terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace key warning switch.
  5. Remove key from ignition switch. Check continuity between key warning switch terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity exists, replace key warning switch. If continuity does not exist, check harness for open circuits and shorts between key warning switch and fuse. Check harness for open circuits and shorts between keyless entry control module and key warning switch.
