DTC P0443 (CPC) - EVAP Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction

  1. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, backprobe ECM harness connector terminal No. 72. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If voltage reading is 10 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage reading is less than 10 volts, go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect purge control solenoid harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, backprobe ECM harness connector terminal No. 72. If voltage is 10 volts or greater, check for short in harness between ECM harness connector and purge control solenoid harness connector. If voltage reading is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check resistance between purge control solenoid terminals No. 1 and 2. If resistance is one ohm or less, replace purge control solenoid and ECM. If resistance is greater than one ohm, check for poor contact in ECM harness connector. Repair as necessary. If terminal contacts are okay, replace ECM.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect purge control solenoid and ECM harness connectors. Check resistance between purge control solenoid harness connector terminal No. 2 and chassis ground. If resistance is 10 ohms or less, repair short in harness between ECM and purge control solenoid harness connector. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check resistance between ECM harness connector terminal No. 72 and purge control solenoid harness connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than one ohm, repair open in harness between ECM and purge control solenoid harness connector.
  6. Remove purge control solenoid. Check resistance between purge control solenoid terminals. If resistance is 10-100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 or greater than 100 ohms, replace purge control solenoid.
  7. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between purge control solenoid harness connector terminal No. 1 and chassis ground. If voltage is 10 volts or greater, confirm there is a good connection at purge control solenoid harness connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in harness between main relay connector and purge control solenoid connector.
