General
The dual clutch transmission (DCT) is characterized by fast gear changes without interruption of tractive power and improved efficiency. It allows sporty vehicle dynamics while at the same time providing the comfort of an automatic transmission.
The dual clutch transmission has the following features:
- Dry, electro-mechanically operated dual clutch
- Six forward gears, one reverse gear
- Multiple-cone synchronization (triple) for transferring large friction forces during acceleration or braking of the shift gears when changing gear (1st to 3rd gear), double-cone synchronization for 4th to 6th gear, single-cone synchronization for reverse gear
- Bevel differential integrated in the transmission housing
- A dual clutch transmission control unit that can be flashed and coded is integrated into the transmission housing for control of all the transmission functions
- An electronic selector lever module for engaging gear ranges "P", "R", "N", "D"
- Steering wheel gearshift buttons on the steering wheel for engaging the individual gears (with transmission mode "M" or temporary transmission mode "M" selected)
The dual clutch transmission is located on the rear axle. Together with the combustion engine installed perpendicularly to the direction of travel, it forms the drive unit. The driving forces of the internal combustion engine are transmitted from the dual clutch transmission through the bevel-gear differential along the drive shafts to the wheels.
The transmission function is described in more detail in the following documents:
- Automatic transmission (AT) technical data
- Dual clutch transmission, driver information
- Dual clutch transmission, power flow
- Moving off and stopping the vehicle, function
- Synchronization, function
- Parking interlock controller, function
- Dual clutch control, function
- Shift operation, function
- Limp-home mode, function
System diagnosis takes place via the diagnostic connector (X11/4) using Xentry Diagnostics.
