DTC P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Read the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON and the engine is started.

      OK

      Ignition Switch Position Techstream Display
      ON Starter signal OFF
      START Starter signal ON

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   8 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    6. Read the value displayed on the Techstream when the ignition switch is turned to ON.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Remains starter signal ON A
      Starter signal OFF B

    B → See step   4 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT ECM (STA TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      A18-48 (STA) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V A

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ST RELAY - ECM) 

  4. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 5 (L) Shift lever in any position other than P or N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 5 (L) Always 10 kΩ or higher

      (Park/Neutral Position Switch)
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Short between 4(B) and 5(L) A
      Short between 2(RB) and 5(L) B
      Within standard range C

  5. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Replace the park/neutral position switch. Refer to REMOVAL [05/2013 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the ignition switch assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [05/2013 - ] - Step 1 .

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT ECM (NSW TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  8. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [05/2013 - ] 
  9. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - ] 
  10. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - ] 
  11. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - ]
