Cranking Holding Function Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED 
    1. Check if engine can be cranked.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Engine cannot be cranked A
      Engine can be cranked B

    A: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Check the result when the ignition switch is turned ON and the engine starts.

      OK

  3. INSPECT CLUTCH START SWITCH 
    1. Inspect the clutch start switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   16 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH 
    1. Inspect the ignition switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   15 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - CLUTCH START SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the F9 ignition switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the A17 clutch start switch connector.
    3. Disconnect the A21 and C19 ECM connectors.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F9-7(ST2) - A17-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) - A21-29(STSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) - A21-25(NSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) - C19-51(STAR) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) or A17-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F9-7(ST2) or A21-29(STSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F9-7(ST2) or A21-25(NSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F9-7(ST2) or C19-51(STAR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLUTCH START SWITCH - ECM - ST RELAY) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block.
    2. Disconnect the A21 ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the A17 clutch start switch connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (ST relay holder) - A21-48 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      2 (ST relay holder) - A17-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      2 (ST relay holder), A21-48 (STA) or A17-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Outside standard range A
      Normal standard range B

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH 
    1. Inspect the ignition switch. Refer to INSPECTION .

    NG → See step   15 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the F9 ignition switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the C28 park/neutral position switch connector.
    3. Disconnect the A21 and C19 ECM connectors.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F9-7(ST2) - C28-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) - A21-29(STSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) - A21-25(NSW) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) - C19-51(STAR) Always Below 1 Ω
      F9-7(ST2) or C28-4 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F9-7(ST2) or A21-29(STSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F9-7(ST2) or A21-25(NSW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F9-7(ST2) or C19-51(STAR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM - ST RELAY) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block.
    2. Disconnect the A21 ECM connector.
    3. Disconnect the C28 park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (ST relay holder) - A21-48 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      2 (ST relay holder) - C28-5 Always Below 1 Ω
      2 (ST relay holder), A21-48 (STA) or C28-5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. INSPECT BATTERY 
    1. Check that the battery is not depleted.

      OK

      Battery is not depleted.

    NG → REPLACE BATTERY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Check that the battery terminals are not loose or corroded.

      OK

      Battery terminals are not loose or corroded.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    OK → See step   18 

  13. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Check the result when the ignition switch is turned ON and the engine starts.

      OK

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - ST RELAY) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block.
    2. Disconnect the A21 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A21-48 (STA) - 2 (ST relay holder) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   18 

  15. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  16. REPLACE CLUTCH START SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  17. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  18. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
