Inspection Procedure

NOTE: Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at the time of the malfunction.
  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the K1 knock sensor connector.
    2. Check for short between the knock sensor connector and the body ground.

      Resistance: 1 MΩ or more 

    3. Reconnect the knock sensor connector.
    1. OK : Go to step   3 . 
    2. NG : Go to next step. 
  2. INSPECT KNOCK SENSOR (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG : REPLACE KNOCK SENSOR 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - KNOCK SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the K1 knock sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the E4 ECM connector.

    4. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Knock Sensor (K1-1) - KNKL (E4-1) Below 1 Ω

      Standard (Check for short): 

      STANDARD (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      Knock Sensor (K1-1) or KNKL (E4-1) - Body Ground 10 kΩ Or Higher
    5. Reconnect the knock sensor connector.
    6. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  4. CONFIRM THE MALFUNCTION DISAPPEAR WHEN A GOOD KNOCK SENSOR IS INSTALLED 

    SST 09816-30010

    1. Replace the knock sensor with a new one.
      1. Remove the knock sensor.
      2. Install a new knock sensor.

        Torque: 44 N.m (450 kgf.cm, 32.6 ft.lbf) 

    2. Perform the driving test.
    3. Connect the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool main switch ON.
    5. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES".
    6. Read the DTC using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool.

      Result: 

      RESULT

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed To
      "P0325" Is Output A
      "P0325" Is Not Output B
    1. B : REPLACE KNOCK SENSOR 
    2. A : REPLACE ECM (See  REPLACEMENT  )
