Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the ECM.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the TCM.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the TCM signal circuit terminal 16 and ground.
  4. Engine ON, press and release the brake pedal. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit test normal, replace the BCM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the BCM.
  5. Ignition OFF, connect the TCM.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the ECM signal circuit terminal 7 and ground.
  7. Engine ON, press and release the brake pedal. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the TCM.
  8. If all circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
