2: Symptoms in the stop lamp circuit can cause the DTC to set.

3: This step checks for a BPP DTC. BPP failure can cause the DTC to set.
4: This step Checks to see if the DTC will reset as current.

1	Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?	Go to Step 2	Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
2	Are the stop lamps always ON or one or more inoperative?	Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems	Go to Step 3
3	Use the scan tool to display DTCs for the body control module (BCM). Does the scan tool display DTC C0277 or C0278?	Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle	Go to Step 4
4	Confirm that the brake pedal position (BPP) is adjusted to the correct position and perform the BPP calibration procedure. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration . Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text. Does the DTC reset?	Go to Step 5	Go to Step 6
5	Repair open or short in the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) resistor. Did you find and correct the condition?	Go to Step 6	Go to Step 2
6	Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text. Does the DTC reset?	Go to Step 2	System OK
