Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Air bag control module is located under center console, to rear of parking brake. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. On manual transmission equipped models, pull up and disengage shift lever boot. On all models, remove screw and console trim assembly. Remove 2 screws and gear box cover. Disconnect central locking system switch. Lift gear box cover up and disconnect remaining electrical connectors.
  3. Remove rear most part of center console by lifting straight up and disconnecting electrical connector. Place manual transmission in Reverse or automatic transmission in Park. Remove ignition key. Lift theft protection cover from ignition lock and disconnect connector.
  4. Install ignition key and place transmission in Neutral. Disconnect power window switch and disconnect connectors. Remove 6 screws and upper part of center console. Fold carpet back and remove 2 screws from front of center console. Remove 2 screws at rear of center console and remove console. Disconnect air bag control module electrical connector. Remove 3 nuts and control module.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install control module with arrow pointing toward rear of vehicle. Mount control module to vehicle before connecting electrical connector. Check AIR BAG warning light to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
