DTC P0441: EVAP Purge Valve Performance Problem
- Unplug EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector. Unplug hose on EVAP purge valve going to EVAP vapor canister. Start engine and allow to idle. Attach vacuum/pressure pump to open purge valve port. Apply vacuum to determine if air can be drawn into purge valve. If purge valve holds vacuum, go to next step. If purge valve does not hold vacuum, replace it and go to step 4 .
- Turn ignition off and reconnect EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector. Start engine and allow it to run for at least one minute, until coolant temperature exceeds 140°F (60°C). Check that air is being drawn in to open port on purge valve in pulses. If purge valve is not pulsing air, replace purge valve and go to step 4
. If purge valve is pulsing air, go to next step.NOTE: Purge valve is cycled on for 4 1/2 minutes, and off for 1/2 minute.
- Connect pressure/vacuum pump to open hose at purge valve going to EVAP vapor canister. Apply vacuum to hose. Air should flow through hose and vapor canister freely. If air flows freely, replace purge valve. If air does not flow freely, repair or replace blocked hose or EVAP vapor canister. Go to next step.
- Connect TECH 2 scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Select ACTIVATE: EVAP DIAGNOSIS. Wait for test status to read READY. If result of test indicates that a leak is still present, problem has not been fixed. Retest system.
