CONCERN

New version spark plug protective tube O-rings.

INFORMATION

New type O-rings are introduced on the spark plug protective tube as of production date: November 24, 1997, beginning with engine number 65W 06641, engine type M96/20.

The new type O-ring material contains silicon and are red in color as compared to the former black O-ring. The smaller O-ring on the protective tube (25.07 mm diameter), part number, 999 707 406 40 (black) may still be used in production.

REPAIRS

When repairs are performed on the protective spark plug tube up to the above-mentioned engine number, the large black or green O-ring must be replaced with the new red version O-ring.

CAUTION: Do not damage the O-ring grooves on protective tube while performing repairs or removal (do not scratch). Also, on early production engines both green or black O-rings may be found.
