Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  The remote start enable procedure is contained in the Starting System Description and Operation.
Remote Start Does Not Work

DEFINITION: The remote vehicle start function does not operate.
1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Press the driver information center (DIC) Options button until Personal Programming appears on the display.
  3. Press the Set/Reset button.
  4. Press the Options button until Remote Start appears on the display.
  5. Is the Remote Start option is enabled?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 3 
3 Enable the remote vehicle start by pressing the Set/Reset button until On is displayed.
Was the remote vehicle start option able to be enabled?
Go to Step 4  Go to Driver Information Center (DIC) Inoperative in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console
4 Observe the DIC for remote start related messages.
Is there any remote related message displayed?
Go to Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console Go to Step 5 
5 Momentarily turn the ignition key to the start position.
Does the engine crank?
Go to Step 6  Go to Starter Solenoid Does Not Click 
6 Does the engine start? Go to Step 7  Go to Engine Cranks but Does Not Run in Engine Controls - 3.8L or Engine Cranks but Does Not Run in Engine Controls - 5.3L
7 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
