Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to Window Replacement - Liftgate .
  2. Remove the rear quarter trim located above the tail lamps. Refer to Molding Replacement - Rear Panel in Exterior Trim.
  3. Remove the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Rear Window in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) .
  5. Disconnect the rear windshield washer fluid supply line.
  6. Disconnect the center high mount stop lamp (CHMSL) electrical connector located behind the header panel.

  8. Disconnect the rear windshield defogger electrical connectors (2).
  9. Remove the license plate pocket. Refer to License Plate Pocket Replacement (Envoy XUV)  or License Plate Pocket Replacement (All Except Envoy XUV) .
  10. Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to Lock Cylinder Replacement - Liftgate .
  11. Remove the window latch assembly. Refer to Latch Replacement - Liftgate Window .
  12. Remove the window wiper assembly. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) or Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (XUV) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  13. Remove the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement .
  14. Remove the liftgate wire harness. Refer to Wiring Harness Replacement - Liftgate .
  15. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Strut Replacement - Liftgate .
  16. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges using a grease pencil or other suitable marking device.

  18. Remove the liftgate hinge nuts with the aid of an assistant.
  19. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
