Test U: Security Indicator Always On Or Flashing

  1. If theft deterrent system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, command Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) lights off. If SECURITY indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator turns off, check for intermittent or poor connections. Repair as necessary.
  3. Disconnect Passlock(tm) Module Green 16-pin harness connector. If SECURITY indicator turns off, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator does not turn off, go to step  6 .
  4. Check for short to ground in Yellow wire between Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal B2 and IPC harness connector terminal A4. See Figure and Figure . If Yellow wire is okay, go to next step. If Yellow wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  5. Check IPC connector for intermittent for poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step  7 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  6. Check Passlock(tm) module connector for poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step  8 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  7. Replace IPC. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace Passlock(tm) module. Program as necessary. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article in ELECTRICAL. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
