Disabling System

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 63 other vehicles, including the 2004 Suzuki Swift +, 2004 Pontiac Vibe, 2004 Pontiac Sunfire, 2004 Pontiac Montana, and 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
    1. Zone 3  - Locate and remove the SIR fuse from the Instrument Panel (I/P) fuse panel (1), which is located near the base of the steering column. See Fig 1 . Disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the upper steering column trim cover. Release the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector locking mechanism (3). Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector (1). See Fig 2 .
    2. Zone 5  - Open and remove the I/P compartment door. Release then unlock the I/P module connector (2). Disconnect the I/P module connector (2). See Fig 3 .
    3. Zone 8  - To disable zone 8, zones 3 and 5 must be disconnected.
