Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to JACKING AND LIFTING in General Information.
    NOTE: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees up or down.
  2. Support the exhaust system.
  3. Remove the catalytic converter nuts.
  4. Remove the catalytic converter gasket.

  5. Remove the exhaust insulator hangers from the exhaust pipe.

    Important:  The cut must be made approximately 38 mm (1.5 in) from the mufflers to ensure adequate overlap for clamping.

  6. Cut the exhaust pipe from the exhaust mufflers.
  7. Remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle.
