Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Operate vehicle within the conditions for running this DTC. See CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . Using scan tool, observe SPECIFIC DTC INFO for DTC 1134 until DTC P1134 test runs. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, problem is intermittent.
  3. Check for an exhaust leak. Turn ignition off. Check for damaged wiring or HO2S 1 not installed correctly. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  11. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  4. Check for corrosion on HO2S 1 terminals. Check for proper terminal tension at HO2S 1 and PCM. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  8. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S 1 harness connector. Connect jumper wire between a ground and HO2S 1 harness connector terminal "A" (Tan wire). Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, observe HO2S 1 voltage. If voltage reading is about 450 millivolts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not about 450 millivolts, go to step  9.
  6. Jumper HO2S 1 harness connector terminals "A" (Tan wire) and "B" (Purple wire) to a known-good ground. Using scan tool, observe HO2S 1 voltage. If voltage reading is less than 300 millivolts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not less than 300 millivolts, go to step  10.
  7. Check for fuel contamination, excessive engine oil or coolant consumption, or improper use of RTV sealant. Repair cause of contamination, then replace HO2S 1 sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step  11.
  8. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  11.
  9. Turn ignition off. Repair open in Tan wire between HO2S 1 harness connector terminal "A" and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 12 or grounded Purple wire between HO2S 1 harness connector terminal "B" and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 10. After repairs, go to step  11.
  10. Turn ignition off. Repair open in Purple wire between HO2S 1 harness connector terminal "B" and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 10 or poor connections at PCM. After repairs, go to next step.
  11. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Operate vehicle within the conditions for running this DTC. See CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC resets, go to step  2.
  12. Using scan tool, observe the stored information and CAPTURE INFO. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
