DTC B1477: Retained Accessory Power Circuit Low: Testing

NOTE: Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C3 is located on end of BCM. For connector access BCM must be removed from center console fuse block.
  1. If retained accessory power diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If retained accessory power diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to RETAINED ACCESSORY POWER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool command Retained Accessory Power (RAP) relay On and Off. RAP relay should click audibly when commanded On or Off. If RAP relay does not turn on and off when commanded, go to next step. If RAP relay turns on and off when commanded, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove RAP relay from Center Console (CC) fuse block. CC fuse block is located behind right console access panel, inside of console. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using test light connected to ground, probe RAP relay control circuit at RAP relay socket terminal (circuit No. 707). See Fig 1. Using scan tool command RAP relay On and Off. If test light turns on and off with each command, go to next step. If test light does not turn on and off with each command, go to step  5.
  4. Connect test light between CC fuse block harness connector C1 terminal A1 (Black wire) and Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C3 terminal No. 20. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Using scan tool command RAP relay On and Off. If test light turns on and off with each command, go to step  7. If test light does not turn on and off with each command, go to step  9.
  5. If test light does not remain illuminated with each command, go to next step. If test light remains illuminated with each command, go to step  7.
  6. Check for short to ground in RAP relay control circuit between BCM and RAP relay (circuit No. 707). See Fig 1. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  12. If no problem is found, go to step  8.
  7. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in RAP relay socket connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  12. If no problem is found, go to step  10.
  8. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in BCM harness connector C3. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  12. If no problem is found, go to step  11.
  9. Repair open or short in Black wire between ground and CC fuse block harness connector C1 terminal A1. See Fig 2. Ground point is located on under right side of instrument panel, on cross beam behind glove box. After repairs are made, go to step 12.
  10. Replace RAP relay. After repairs are made, go to step 12.
  11. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair are made, go to next step.
  12. Using scan tool clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria. If DTC does not reset, system is okay. If DTC resets, go to step  2.
